Miami is relatively a young city. Founded 120 years ago, it started as a small town along the Miami river and attracted adventurers and true visionaries with a passion or necessity for warmer climate. The first real estate real boom in the city was in the 20s, but it wasn't until the arrival of air conditioning that Miami experienced a real growth and was able to lure long term residents.
Fast forward to 2017 and Miami is booming. The skyline is changing rapidly and the bar has been raised when it comes to construction, design and offerings in the luxury real estate market. Miami consistently ranks amongst global destinations as a hot-spot (#6 City to Matter Most to High-Net-Worth Individuals). The New York Times agrees that Miami is where the the rich come to play...and nowadays, they don't stay at a hotel. They stay at home, in their floor-to-ceiling condo pad overlooking the Atlantic ocean, designed by a famous starchitect and featuring the most exclusive amenities. The influx of wealthy investors to South Florida is not new. However, what's new its the fact that they are flocking from all corners of the world and they are not rich, they are uber rich. A large portion of the new construction projects in Miami that will be delivered between now and 2019 target this demographic.
These luxury projects have it all - master architects that have challenged modern design, interior designers who trotter the world in search of inspiration and amenities for the most discerning taste. These Miami developments offer what other places can't: access to white sand beaches, views of the beautiful and interesting Atlantic ocean and 365 days of perfect weather.
Because one of my passions is curating, here's my hand picked list of the most awe-inspiring projects in Miami and its surrounding areas:
Palazzo del Sol. If privacy and exclusivity is your thing, then this option is for you. Nestled in Fisher Island, which has the highest per capita income in the United States, and exclusively accessed by private ferry, Palazzo showcases modern understated elegance. Enjoy the seclusion and privacy in your own private island and private beach, minutes from Miami Beach. Starting at $6M+
MUSE. This boutique luxury oceanfront building features residences designed in collaboration with no other than wellness guru, Deepak Chopra. Get ready to be restored and awaken by your surroundings in the comfort of your home (see a recent clip by Fox here). Pure bliss, the largest balconies in Sunny Isles and the most amazing views. Starting at $4M.
Auberge Fort Lauderdale. This blissful retreat is the only luxury project in Fort Lauderdale offering exclusive beachfront access. Part of the Auberge portfolio (who hasn't heard of Auberge de Soleil in Napa?). Starting at $1.6M; a unit just sold for $8.9M and the $10M penthouse is under contract.
Faena. If you are one with an irreverent personality and fine taste in art, perhaps it's worth considering Faena House. Located in the new Faena District (mid Miami Beach) and adjacent to the Faena Hotel (where Madonna stayed and performed during Art Basel), Faena House has a very distinct design. Big names in the art scene and global finance have already purchased units in the 18-story condo. The most expensive condo in Miami real estate history sold there for $60Million last year - what a penthouse!
Depending on your taste and your preferences, there are many more options...keen for fashion? There is Fendi House, Missoni Baia and Armani Casa. Looking a statement piece in the form of real estate?,Why not One Thousand Museum, the first and only skyscraper in the western hemisphere designed by the late Zaha Hadid, coming soon to Downtown Miami.
